Watch the Dodge Viper ACR Devour the Nurburgring in 7:03.45

Last month a group of Viper enthusiasts took two Viper ACRs to the Nurburgring with the intent on setting a new lap record at the demanding 12.9-mile German racetrack.

They didn’t set a record, but they sure proved the Viper ACR is one of the world’s fastest road cars. Heavy rain got in the way of things initially, but a brief window of good weather opened up and driver Dominik Farnbacher was able to lay down a respectable time of 7:03.45. The team, which was assembled by IMSA racing driver Ben Keating’s Viper Exchange dealership, had originally planned to make a second attempt, but the 7:03.45 lap turned out to be the best they could manage.

The group is looking to return to Germany in about three week’s time and crack the 7-minute barrier. They’re hoping to dethrone the current king of the ‘Ring, the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, which set a rather insane lap time of 6:52.01 last year. The true record holder is actually the Nio EP9 with a lap of 6:45.90, however just 16 examples of the electric hypercar will be built, so we’re electing to leave it out of the production car rankings. Besides, the ACR doesn’t stand a chance of outpacing the 1,300+ horsepower, $1.2 million EP9.
