Volkswagen's Newest SUV Gets an IIHS Top Safety Pick Award

Poor headlights prevented the new Volkswagen Atlas from qualifying for a coveted Top Safety Pick+ award.

The new SUV from Volkswagen did earn the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick award, after receiving good ratings in all five crashworthiness tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints. The Atlas also has an available front crash prevention system that earns a superior rating. In the 12-mph IIHS track test, the Atlas avoided a collision, while in the 25-mph test, the impact speed was reduced by 17 mph.
