The base price of the Tesla Model X has been dropped by $3,000.
That means the Tesla Model X 75D now starts from $79,500 excluding a $1,200 destination and doc fee, making it exactly $5,000 more than the Tesla Model S 75D that starts at $74,500. “When we launched Model X 75D, it had a low gross margin,” Tesla said in a statement. “As we’ve achieved efficiencies, we are able to lower the price and pass along more value to the customers.” This finally fulfills CEO Elon Musk’s promise that the Model X would cost $5,000 more than the Model S with similar options.

In addition to the price drop, Tesla updated the Model S P100D and Model X P100D by including the previous $5,000 Premium Package onto the vehicles. A spoiler can be added without charge. Absorbing the Premium Package into the Model S P100D and Model X P100D, essentially making those features standard on the range-topping models, was likely done since most buyers opted for the Premium Package when purchasing a P100D. It also helps simplify manufacturing for Tesla, knowing that all P100D versions will now come with the previous Premium Package options.
