This Could be Nissan's Next New SUV in America

Photos of the new Nissan Terra for the Chinese market have leaked ahead of the SUV’s official debut.

In China, the Terra will replace the existing Paladin, which is the Xterra in other markets. The new mid-size SUV rides on the same underpinnings as the NP300 Navara pickup truck, which means it’s a true body-on-frame SUV. As a seven-seater model, the Terra would actually fit in Nissan’s North American lineup, although the company has yet to confirm it will head to other markets. In China, it will be powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 183 horsepower, according to

What makes the SUV so interesting is that the Navara was previously sold in North America under the Frontier badge. Nissan has confirmed a new Frontier is coming and it will be built in the U.S., which means an SUV spawned from the new pickup isn’t that crazy of an idea. It is believed the next-generation Frontier will be closely related to the Navara pickup.

The Nissan Xterra was last sold in the U.S. as a 2015 model year, so it will be interesting to see if the Japanese automaker decides to revive the nameplate.
