The Only 8 Cars for Real People That Debuted in Geneva

The Geneva Motor Show is known for being the fanciest auto show in the world.

As the show where exotic carmakers like Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren show off their latest supercars, some of the more mainstream new vehicle debuts get overshadowed by the six-figure, mega-powerful, limited-run playthings for rich people. Not all of us are Kardashians, Mayweathers or Ronaldos, so while all the fancy new supercars are fun to look at, they’re not exactly relevant to most of us.

Here are pretty much the only eight cars for real people (people who aren’t millionaires) that debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. There were actually quite a few “regular people” cars in  Geneva, but these are the only ones relevant to the North American market.

Subaru Crosstrek

The Subaru Crosstrek debuted with a refreshed look that a bit less awkward and little improvements all around that give the crossover better driving dynamics and make it more adept off-road. The all-new platform makes the Crosstrek safer, more efficient and quieter.

Ford Fiesta ST

As far as fun for the masses goes, the Ford Fiesta ST is the poster child for cheap thrills. This new Ford hot hatch made its debut at the Geneva show with a new itty-bitty three-cylinder engine that outputs 200 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

It’s not the sporty Eclipse coupe we remember from our teenage years, but Mitsubishi has revived the name for its new compact crossover. The uniquely styled crossover will likely come to North America with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Volvo XC60

If you loved the look of the XC90 when it came out but thought it was too big, the new Volvo XC60 is the crossover you’ve been waiting for. With the same handsome look and swanky interior as its big brother, this Volvo is sure to be a hit.

Honda Civic Type R

One of the standout “regular people” new car debuts was the new Honda Civic Type R. This production model looks a lot like the concept/prototype we saw last year. This Type R, which is FINALLY coming to North America, comes with a turbo four-cylinder with 306 hp.

Toyota Yaris GRMN

The refreshed Toyota Yaris debuted at Geneva, but the more exciting news was that the humble economy car will now be offered as a hot hatch. With a supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, this Toyota Yaris GRMN will be a ton of fun to drive.

Volkswagen Arteon

The new Volkswagen Arteon is a fastback sedan that will replace the CC and act like an Audi A7 for people with smaller budgets. The sedan will come with all the latest technology, luxury car features, and a lot of room for passengers and cargo.

Range Rover Velar

A Range Rover isn’t exactly a “regular person” car, but with a price tag of about $50,000, this new Velar is not impossibly out of reach. In addition to being able to off-road like a real Range Rover, this Velar is stylish, comes with all the latest tech, and offers three different engine choices.
