The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is Heading to NASCAR Next Year

Chevrolet has debuted the Camaro ZL1 as its next generation Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Car.

Seven-time champ Jimmie Johnson joined Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development, to pull the sheet on the new Cup car at GM HQ in Detroit.

“Chevrolet, Camaro, and ZL1 are all synonymous with winning, both on and off the track,” said Reuss. “We are thrilled to run Camaro in NASCAR next year, with the time-honored and track-tested ZL1 badge, and we’re just as excited for our drivers, teams, fans, and customers.”

Chevy says that in order to stay true to the ZL1’s design while optimizing aerodynamic performance, computational fluid dynamics analysis and copious wind-tunnel testing were used to sculpt the final shape.

“Racers have long relied on Camaro to win races and championships in amateur and professional sports car and drag racing, as well as the NASCAR XFINITY Series,” said Jim Campbell, vice president, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “We look forward to racing the Camaro ZL1 in the premier Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.”

Look for the car to make its competitive debut next February when the series rolls into Daytona for Speedweeks, joining the Camaro SS which will once again feature in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.
