Someone Actually Paid a Ton of Money for this BMW i3 Spaghetti Car

Someone just paid a ton of money for this ugly car, but you can feel a bit better about it because all the money is going to charity.

The BMW i3 Spaghetti Car was introduced a year ago and was originally supposed to be destroyed sometime after the Rencontres d’Arles Festival of Photography. It appears the German automaker had a change of heart, and instead, the Spaghetti Car was recently auctioned at the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s Fourth Annual Saint-Tropez Gala. BMW said, “after some intense bidding,” the Spaghetti Car sold for €100,000 ($116,576) to a Swiss collector.

The BMW i3 Spaghetti Car is the result of a collaboration between BMW and Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, along with photographer Pierpaolo Ferrari.

The LDF Gala was hosted by Leonardo DiCaprio and guests to this year’s event included Adrien Brody, Sean Penn, Taylor Hill, Iman Hamman, Gerald Butler, Lenny Kravitz, and Madonna. The car was donated to the Foundation by BMW France and the proceeds will go on to benefit LDF programs.
