Older Dodge Grand Caravan Models Recalled for Airbag Issue

A total of 297,000 Dodge Grand Caravans in the U.S. and Canada are affected by a recall.

The recall affects 2011-2012 Dodge Grand Caravan minivans and is over a driver’s front air bag that can inflate unexpectedly. According to the American automaker, eight people have suffered minor injuries as a result of the issue, but no crashes have been reported. FCA says the issue comes from airbag wiring that can chafe against steering wheel trim, causing a short circuit. If this occurs, drivers could see an airbag warning light, the windshield wipers may unexpectedly turn on, or the speed control may not work.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect the wiring and replace it if necessary. A protective covering will also be installed to prevent the issue from reoccurring. Affected owners will be notified via first class mail starting July 28.

The company confirmed the Chrysler Town & Country is not affected by the recall, as it features different steering wheel trim.
