Mercedes‘s new entry-level sedan could be heading to North America and it has been spied testing.
Spy photographers have caught the next-generation Mercedes A-Class testing at the Nurburgring and although it’s still heavily camouflaged, we can make out its overall shape and design. This time around, our spy photographers also managed to get a photo of the car’s interior, revealing a new dash and a pair of digital screens, although it’s a more simplified version than what’s found in more upscale Mercedes models. The prototype is also testing a new seven-speed automatic transmission.

Expected to ride on a new version of the MFA platform dubbed MFA2, the next-gen Mercedes A-Class will be lighter than its predecessor and will be able to take advantage of alternative powertrains. The company is expected to use a slightly stretched version of the MFA2 platform to underpin the new B-Class, CLA, and a smaller crossover called GLB.
Two body styles are planned, a five-door hatchback and a traditional four-door sedan. Look for the sedan to offer more room than the CLA, but it’s possible it will only be heading to China.
Look for the next-gen Mercedes A-Class to make its debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before heading to dealerships in early 2018.
