Builder Dreams of Taking 600 HP Toyota CH-R to the Nurburgring

One of the more surprising builds we saw come out of this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas was Toyota’s insane 600 horsepower, racing-ready C-HR R-Tuned.

The Japanese automaker claims its stripped-out, boosted and track-prepped C-HR can lap Big Willow in just 1:25.22 – making it faster around that particular track than a Lamborghini Aventador and Nissan GT-R Nismo. You might be asking yourself why Toyota built this asphalt devouring monster of a crossover, and there’s more than one answer to that question. Toyota wanted to find a way to get people looking at its recently released C-HR, but it also wanted to show off the rigidity of the C-HR’s chassis and how capable the crossover can be.

Speaking to , Dan Gardner, whose company Dan Gardner Spec built the C-HR R-Tuned for Toyota, said he’d love to take it out to the Nurburgring one day and show the world just how much of giant slayer this little blue grocery getter can be. In fact, he’s so confident in the Toyota’s capabilities, he believes it would be the fastest front-wheel drive vehicle to ever turn a lap at the infamous Green Hell.

“The Toyota NGA platform the C-HR is built on is really stiff, so we worked on developing the handling characteristics,” Gardner said. “We wanted to make a supercar killer – the whole point is that it doesn’t make sense.”

“The car was built for SEMA and Toyota has no plans for it from now on,” he added. “But it’s the real deal. Personally, it would be a dream to take it to the Nordschleife. I have no doubt it could set the front-wheel-drive record there.”

So Toyota, you’re looking to get the C-HR in front of the eyes of millions? Why not help Gardner put his money where his mouth is and ship his wild creation out to Germany for a track day at the Nordschleife? His comments have certainly piqued our interest..
