BMW has officially debuted its new X7 iPerformance Concept at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, previewing the production version of the upcoming full-size SUV.
BMW says the X7 design study is exemplified by its vertical proportions, which are most apparent up front where the tall, redesigned BMW kidney grilles reside. The rear also appears very upright with vertical character elements jetting upward to the horizontally placed taillights. The sides feature a hockey-stick shaped chrome strip, similar to the 7-Series, and pronounced wheel arches that help give the six-person SUV a “powerful” stance, BMW says.
The interior is described as having a “contemporary feeling of lightness.” Three rows of two seats ensure all passengers have ample leg room, while a large panoramic roof builds on the light, airy feel of the cabin. The concept will be shown with smoke white leather upholstery complemented by olive-bronze leather sections, aluminum trim and dark, open-pore ash accents. The driver gets a 12.3-inch cluster screen, which is joined by a central touchscreen with the iDrive controller and other functions mounted below on the center console. Rear passengers get a digital display complete with a host of digital services and apps.

BMW didn’t provide many details on the X7 performance concept’s powertrain, only saying it will have a gas, TwinPower plug-in hybrid powertrain capable of running in zero emissions mode. We’re expecting all-wheel drive to appear in all production versions of the full-size utility.
The production X7 is part of BMW’s new luxury-focused product strategy, which it has called ‘NUMBER ONE > NEXT’. The German automaker plans on making a major luxury car push under the new plan, which will also see a new i8 and i8 Roadster arrive, along with the new BMW 8-Series. These vehicles, which BMW is describing as its ‘Elite models’, will also receive a black-and-white BMW logo that is reminiscent of the original BMW logo first used 100 years ago.
