You Can Still Buy a Brand New, Never Driven Lexus LFA

A dozen Lexus LFA supercars are still sitting at dealerships, the Japanese automaker has confirmed.

Recent supercars and hypercars are basically all sold out before they even make their public debut, but the Lexus LFA still isn’t sold out. Considering production of the supercar ended in 2012 and only 500 units were produced, that’s a bit surprising. First reported by , Lexus sold an LFA in July and six units were actually sold last year. The website then followed up with the Japanese automaker to confirm there are still units available and according to a Toyota representative, there are 12 Lexus LFA supercars officially classified as dealer inventory.

But there’s a reason why there are still some units remaining, Lexus explained. Originally, the company intended to only take orders on LFAs from customers to avoid price gouging and speculation, at least in the U.S. But once orders started dropping off in 2010, the automaker wanted to make sure cars were sitting at factories so it allowed existing LFA holders to order a second car, as well as dealerships and executives to order cars for themselves or for selling at dealerships. Some of those dealer-ordered cars are still coming up as new car sales.

Lexus did add that a dealership may have a good reason for holding onto the car for all these years. Some may never want to sell, while others are using them as display cars such as Lexus Torre in Puerto Rico. “Some of these cars may never be sold, except perhaps by the dealer’s heirs,” said Lexus International.

But hey, if you missed out on the Lexus LFA when it first arrived dealerships five years ago and just assumed it was sold out, you may get lucky if you start calling around.
