Kia’s new sports sedan is entering the final stages of development.
The Kia Stinger made a surprising debut earlier this year at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show as a sporty high-performance sedan that really drew our interest. And now it is getting ready to head to production, with Kia putting it through its paces at the Nurburgring. According to Kia, each prototype is subjected to a 480-lap Nurburgring validation program, covering over 6,200 miles (10,000 kilometers), with designers and engineers working together to refine aerodynamic efficiency.

The 3.3-liter Kia Stinger is the model currently in its final testing phase at the Nurburgring. Kia says the development work for the 2.0-liter and 2.2-liter powertrains have been completed, for both rear- and all-wheel-drive models. In addition to testing it on the track, the company has been putting the Stinger out on the road worldwide, with more than 683,000 miles (1.1 million km) accumulated.
“The new Kia GT is a true , a car for spirited long-distance driving,” explains Gregory Guillaume, Kia Motors Europe’s Chief Designer. “It’s not about outright power, hard-edged dynamics and brutal styling all at the expense of luxury, comfort, and grace. The new GT has nothing to do with being the first to arrive at the destination – this car is all about the journey. It’s about passion.”
The Kia Stinger will head to production in the second quarter of this year before it goes on sale in the fourth quarter.
