Toyota's GR Super Sport Concept is Cool but the Debut Was Weird

The Toyota GR Super Sports Concept debuted at the 2018 Tokyo Auto Salon this week.

The GR Super Sports is exactly what a brand like Toyota needs. A raw, motorsport-inspired, high-performance halo car that gets people to look at Toyota as a more fun, sportier brand. It also looks great, and has the twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain from the Toyota TS050 LMP1 car, which makes 986 hp in the racecar.

We will point out, however, that the debut of the GR Super Sports in Tokyo was a bit odd. There were some muscular guys gyrating, some other girls in baggy clothes dancing with them to techno music, and some other guys next to the car in absurdly tight leather pants looking they aren’t sure what to do. They do start flexing at one point, though.

We don’t anticipate a similar debut for the Avalon in Detroit next week, but who knows!

Check it out below? Or don’t. Happy Friday!
