The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has made it tougher to earn a Top Safety Pick+ award for 2018.
Announced earlier this year, IIHS has added a new passenger-side small overlap crash test that is now part of the criteria for the Top Safety Pick+ award. For 2018, vehicles must also have good-rated headlights and good or acceptable passenger-side protection in small overlap front crashes in order to be eligible for the top award from the safety agency.
In addition, those vehicles must also have good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests, along with an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.
