The McLaren 720S will be present at this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, however it will be made of Lego and attendees will have to help put it together themselves.
McLaren wants to build a 1:1 scale Lego model of the latest addition to its supercar-laden product portfolio at Goodwood, but it’s only going to show up with the bricks. With the participation of the car-crazy Goodwood show goers, it hopes to piece the Lego creation together between Friday and Sunday. They’ll place orange bricks at designated points around the car and after 12,700 bricks have been laid, the result will look just like a 720S.

McLaren worked closely with Lego’s Speed Champions team for motorsports-inspired Lego kits, providing them with in-depth vehicle CAD data to ensure the Lego recreation was accurate as possible. The automaker also had to build a base for participants to stick the bricks to, which was put together using over 250,000 Lego bricks and a custom steel frame. The completed result should weigh about 6 tons – way more than the carbon fiber-clad 720S’ dry weight of 2,828 lbs (1,283 kg).
