Tesla's Beast of a Semi-Truck Will be Unveiled October 26th

The Tesla semi-truck will be unveiled on October 26th, company founder Elon Musk revealed in a Tweet yesterday.

Back in June, Musk said the electric automaker’s semi truck would be shown in September, but the “tentative” debut date for the electric transport has been pushed back to late October. It sounds as though Tesla has prepared a fully working prototype, with the Tweet indicating a “test ride” of the truck has been scheduled for Oct. 26th as well.

Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride tentatively scheduled for Oct 26th in Hawthorne. Worth seeing this beast in person. It’s unreal.

The Tesla semi was first outlined in 2016, when Musk detailed his so-called “Tesla Master Plan.” The strategy detailed Tesla’s ambition to roll out vehicles representing all major forms of land transport, including semi-trucks, buses, commercial vehicles and even a pickup truck. The semi will be the first of these vehicles to arrive and we imagine its electric motors and battery pack will be shared with the other large-scale Tesla commercial vehicles.

Tesla has already released a teaser image of its semi, revealing its tall, upright stature and futuristic-looking LED headlights. Musk has said he wants the transport to be capable of “platooning,” which would allow a number of the pickups to enter a lead-follow line, with only the lead truck needing a human driver. Details on the semi-autonomous technology were revealed by last month. The publication also learned the truck will have around 200-300 miles of range – so it won’t be capable of long-haul style trips from launch.

More details on Tesla’s semi may come to light as its late October debut date approaches.
