Tesla Model 3 Prototype Caught Cruising Down the Street

Tesla Model 3 Prototype Caught Cruising Down the Street

A short video clip has been released that offers our best look yet at the new Tesla Model 3.

The clip comes from Tesla tuning shop which is located directly beside Tesla’s design headquarters and SpaceX. The Model 3 in the clip seems to be a fully built prototype, lacking the camouflage we normally see on test cars.

Tesla reported in SEC filings that it began assembling pre-production Model 3s in February of this year and expects a beta prototype to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2017. The brand is still aiming to begin full production by July of 2017, while by some time in 2018, Tesla wants to be building 10,000 Model 3s per week.

This video is not the first Model 3 we have seen, though it is the first time we’ve seen the car cruising down the street in regular traffic.

It will be interesting to see if Tesla, a company that has become notorious for missing deadlines, will meet its July production-start date.
