Tesla Lowers Price of the Fastest Model S and Model X

Tesla is making it easier for buyers to get into the dual-motor versions of its Model S and Model X, quietly lowering the prices for both models for 2018.

The price of the Model S 100D been reduced by $3,500 from $97,500 to $94,000, while the cost of a Model X 100D has fallen by the same amount for a sticker price of $96,000.

The faster-accelerating Model S P100D with Ludicrous mode is also now cheaper with a $5,000 price reduction from $140,000 to $135,000. The Model X P100D has been reduced by the same margin and will now start at $140,000.

A Tesla spokesperson told the price reductions come after the automaker made improvements in its lithium ion battery production processes.

“Tesla is passing cost efficiency improvements of approximately 3% in 100 kWH pack production through to customers,” they said.

The price reductions will be applied to all 100 kWh Teslas for 2018 and will also be handed down to those existing customers who have placed an order for one of the cars but has yet to take delivery. Tesla raised the price of the 100 kWh Model S and Model X for 2017 after adding more standard equipment to the cars, but has essentially reversed that change with this reduction whilst retaining the standard features.
