Tesla Hikes Prices Of Model S 100D And Model X 100D

Tesla has increased the prices of both the Model S 100D and Model X 100D performance models for the 2017 model year.

The Model S 100D will start at $97,500, which reflects a price increase of $2,500, with the more performance-minded Model S P100D starting at $140,000, an increase of $5,500. The Model X 100D will now start at $99,500, an increase of $1,000, while the Model X P100D has received a $9,500 increase for an MSRP of $145,000.

Tesla also made changes to the standard and available equipment on the Model S and Model X. All Model S sedans will now be sold with the panoramic glass sunroof and power liftgate as standard, while the Model X gets new 20-inch Sonic Carbon wheels and an available second-row center console. Additionally, the only Tesla vehicles available with the optional High Amperage Charger will now be 100D and P100D models.

These price hikes come on the heels of Tesla’s revised pricing for the entry-level Model S 75, which dropped from $74,500 to $69,500. The Model S 75 is also the only rear-wheel drive Tesla model that will continue to be sold. The rest of the Model S and Model X lineups consists of dual-motor, all-wheel drive vehicles.

These price changes are meant to create a larger gap between the 75 kWh and 90 kWh models with the and the large battery pack 100 kWh models. The lower price of the Model S 75 is also meant to account for the discontinuation of the entry-level Model S 60. Soon Tesla will have a model that undercuts the Model S 75 by a large margin with the Model 3, which is expected to launch in July.
