Tesla Employees are Officially Fighting Back

Workers are fighting back against Tesla‘s policies.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has officially handed down a complaint that supports Tesla workers’ charges that the company’s conduct and confidentiality agreement violate their rights. Earlier this year in April, Tesla workers began speaking out against the company’s “overly-broad confidentiality agreement” that could bar them from talking about their working conditions and safety issues at their facility.

In the following months, more workers have raised concerns about health and safety, compensation, and their right to speak out, despite signing a document indicating they may face termination or even criminal prosecution if they speak publicly.

According to a copy of the Consolidated Complaint, Tesla must file an answer on or before September 14, 2017 or postmarked on or before September 13, 2017. There is also a hearing scheduled for November 14, 2017 at the Oakland Regional Office of the National Labor Relations Board in Oakland, California. The hearing will be conducted before an administrative law judge of the NLRB and Tesla will have the right to appear and present testimony regarding the allegations in the Consolidated Complaint.

“For as long as I’ve been at Tesla, it’s been clear to me that it’s up to the workers to make sure that we’re safe and treated fairly,” said Jonathan Galescu, a Tesla Production Associate. “I joined others in filing the charges for myself, but I also did it for my coworkers – they need to know we have rights, and that we can speak up about what we are seeing and experiencing. I want to thank the NLRB for hearing us and the UAW for having our backs as we continue our fight to address the issues on the shop floor and form our union.”
