Spy Shots Signal Arrival of New Mercedes-Benz GLS

New spy photos have signaled the arrival of the next-generation, 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLS full-size SUV.

The spy photos show a prototype for the large, three-row SUV wearing heavy camouflage. The SUV’s styling is kept safely under wraps by the body cladding and camo, but the general shape can be made out and to our eye, it doesn’t look too much different than the outgoing GLS.

The new GLS will ride on Mercedes’ Modular High Architecture (MHA) for large crossovers and SUVs, replacing the out of date platform employed in the current version. Under the hood could be Mercedes’ twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, which may be joined by its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the AMG variant. Expect a plug-in hybrid model to arrive eventually as well.

We’re expecting the cabin to look very similar to the rest of Mercedes’ lineup. That means a twin digital dashboard/infotainment display will be present as well as other Mercedes’ interior styling hallmarks.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLS is expected to debut in late 2018 as a 2019 model year vehicle.
