Porsche Spied Developing its Next-Generation Sports Car

Although it likely won’t arrive until 2018, Porsche has begun development on its next-generation 911 sports car.

Rumored to ride on a newly developed modular sports car platform, the next-generation Porsche 911 might see some drastic changes including the addition of a hybrid model. The iconic sports car will take advantage of its new platform to have more flexibility when it comes to powertrain options, with the architecture also underpinning the next-generation Boxster and Cayman models. It is also believed that the platform could be used for new Lamborghini models, as well as the next-generation Audi R8.

For now, the German automaker is using the current 911 as a mule to test next-generation technology and we can see wider wheel arches being used on the prototype. In the front, it appears Porsche is using the wider fenders found on the GT3 RS, although the air outlets have been covered, suggesting that the track will be wider on the next 911.

Expect to see full-body prototypes testing within the next couple of months.
