Porsche’s flat-six engine is perhaps one of the best engines in production today, but the German automaker wants to reduce its reliance on internal combustion, revealing it wants half of its cars to be electric by 2023.
The first product to arrive as part of Porsche‘s electric vehicle onslaught will be the production version of the Mission E, which is set to arrive in 2019. But that’s just the beginning, as the company plans on electrifying plenty more models in the next few years. CEO Oliver Blume recently spoke to German business publication , sharing details on its electric future that includes a crossover coupe. Both the Mission E and the new crossover will be built at Porsche’s new Zuffenhausen electric car production facility – reportedly capable of manufacturing around 60,000 units annually.

Perhaps the biggest news is in regards to the next-generation Macan, which is set to launch in 2022. The mid-size crossover will only be available as an electric vehicle, and considering it’s currently the automaker’s best-selling model, it should help boost the number of all-electric Porsches on roadways by 2023.
For those worried that the 911 will eventually become electrified, you can wipe that sweat from your brow. That idea has been shelved for the time being, thankfully.
