Poll: Jaguar F-Pace S or BMW X5 xDrive35i?

Which luxury crossover would YOU rather park in your driveway, the Jaguar F-Pace of BMW X5?

Both of these offerings are stylish and engaging to drive, sharing plenty in common.

Starting with the Jag, it features a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that’s rated at a stout 380 horses. For more economical motoring, a four-cylinder diesel is also on the powertrain menu, as are two flavors of 2.0-liter turbo.

Aft of the bellhousing, an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard in the F-Pace. This combination helps improve performance, reduce fuel consumption and ensure the vehicle never misses a step in any weather.

Similarly, the X5 xDrive35i features a 3.0-liter six-cylinder powerplant, though its holes are all in a row, rather than arranged at an angle. Likewise, this inline engine features direct injection and forced induction – it’s turbocharged!

Rated at 300 horses and 300 pound-feet (likely conservative figures), the BMW is no slouch, despite its output deficit compared to the Jag. An eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive is standard in this version of the X5. If still more giddy-up is desired, the xDrive50i features a 445-horsepower V8 engine, though the company also offers diesel and plug-in electric models for extra choice.

When it comes to efficiency, these two vehicles are nearly identical, averaging 20 miles per gallon. They’re also both rated at 18 in the city, however, the BMW has a 1-MPG advantage on highway drives, having earned a score of 24.

Pricing is likewise similar. The base F-Pace S starts at just shy of $61,000, including delivery fees. All in, the X5 xD35i is about $525 cheaper, the price of a few really nice bottles of Bordeaux.
