Nissan Continues its Obsession with Dogs

Nissan has created another project car for dog owners.

Last month, the Japanese automaker introduced the X-Trail 4Dogs, a concept car that featured plenty of dog-friendly accessories. But since the X-Trail isn’t available in the U.S., Nissan is showing off a Rogue project with similar upgrades at the 2017 New York Auto Show.

Nissan calls it the “Rogue Dogue” and it was built by Dennis McCarthy, who is the car coordinator for  films. So of course the automaker couldn’t help but say how the Rogue Dogue is ready for a “fast & fur-ious” debut. Like the X-Trail, the Rogue has been modified with a long list of upgrades to add comfort for dogs, including a secured, removable custom dog bed in the rear cargo area. There’s a slide-away dog ramp for easy access to the rear compartment, which also features built-in non-spill dog food and water dispensers.

Having a dirty dog in a car isn’t ideal, which is why the Rogue Dogue has a 360-degree dog shower with 10-gallon pressurized water reserve. And to make sure there’s no wet dog smell, there’s an integrated dog drying system with compressed heated air dryer and outside hose attachment. For added comfort, the dogs in the back also get to enjoy heated air vents.

The project is based on a 2017 Nissan Rogue SL with the Platinum Reserve Interior Package and will be on display at the 2017 New York Auto Show from April 14 through April 23.

“Everything that we built into the Rogue Dogue project are actually very possible to add to a production Rogue, though you do compromise the available rear cargo area slightly for the ramp, storage compartments and the food and water dispensers,” said Dennis McCarthy, owner, Vehicle Effects, Sun Valley, Calif. “But really, next to your family, your dog is your most important cargo, so why not?”
