The next-generation of Mercedes-AMG compact cars could produce over 400 horsepower thanks to a new hybrid powertrain.
Mercedes’ current line of AMG compacts, those being the CLA45 and GLA45 in North America, make 375 horsepower from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The next-generation Mercedes CLA 45 AMG will be even more potent, however, according to a report from . The British publication claims the new A45 will have at least 400 hp, and since the both the CLA 45 and GLA 45 share their underpinnings with the A-Class, the changes will more than likely head to the four-door sports coupe and crossover as well.

The next-generation A-Class will ride on a redeveloped version of the company’s MFA platform and will have a wider front track than its predecessor. It’s unclear when the new CLA and GLA models will debut, but it will likely come some time after the new A-Class is introduced.
Although the A-Class isn’t currently offered in the U.S., rumor has it that the German automaker is considering the hot hatch for the North American market. There’s also the possibility of an A-Class sedan joining the lineup, previewed by the Concept A Sedan (seen above), but it’s too early to say for sure.
