Next-Gen BMW X5 Spied Testing a New Platform at the Nurburgring

Considering the all-new X5 is running on the Nurburgring already, look for the new SUV to debut before the end of the year.

Like the upcoming BMW X7, the next-generation BMW X5 will ride on the German automaker’s CLAR platform, first introduced on the current 7 Series sedan. Although the BMW X5 prototype is heavily camouflaged, we can tell that BMW won’t depart too far from its current styling language, so expect evolutionary changes when it comes to design. The big news is the use of that CLAR platform, which will help shed weight from the X5, improving fuel economy and performance.

Powertrain should also be similar to current offerings, so expect to see inline-six and V8 engines making up the lineup. A four-cylinder plug-in hybrid option is also likely, thanks to the CLAR platform. And of course, the high-performance X5 M will debut sometime after the standard model bows.

The next-generation BMW X5 is expected to arrive dealerships next year.
