New Porsche 911 GT2 Won't Have a Manual Transmission

The Porsche 911 GT2 is making a return to sit atop the 911 range.

The model was noticeably absent on the last-generation 911, but the German automaker is now promising that one is on the way. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume recently spoke to  at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, revealing the GT2 is set to return and it will only be available with Porsche’s PDK automatic transmission. So for those drivers who still want to row their own gears, the recently revealed Porsche 911 GT3 is your best option.

Unfortunately, Blume wouldn’t get into specifics about the upcoming 911 GT2, but did drop some hints about its performance: “Today we can’t talk about the power, but when we launch the car, I think you will see at which level we can get to with the car. And we’re still working at it.”

The last Porsche 911 GT2 RS offered 620 horsepower, so don’t be surprised to see the new model surpass that figure. It will sport a turbocharged engine and even though it might sound confusing, the GT2 is more powerful than the GT3.

It’s unclear when the sports car will debut, but the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show is a likely place.
