New Mercedes A-Class Will Likely Arrive in North America

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz A-Class was recently shown to U.S. dealers, signalling the entry-level model’s arrival in North America for 2018.

Mercedes gave us a taste of the all-new A-Class when it debuted the Concept A Sedan at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show earlier this year. It never said whether the four-door would arrive in North America, but after showing it to American dealers this month, it seems almost certain the automaker is planning on offering the nameplate stateside.

The 2019 A-Class will ride on a new front-wheel-drive based architecture Mercedes has dubbed MFA2, which will also serve as the basis for new versions of the B-Class, CLA, and GLA. The compact will undercut every model in Mercedes’ North American lineup, starting below the $33,625 (including destination) of the current CLA. For this reason, the A-Class should help Mercedes attract more youthful buyers and conquest consumers coming from other brands.

Dealers were also recently shown the production version of the AMG GT four-door. The super sedan was previewed by the AMG GT Concept that debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and is expected to arrive in production form by as early as next summer. The concept made it clear the sedan will be acutely focused on performance, but whether or not the production version will retain the concept’s 805-horsepower twin-turbo hybrid V8 powertrain remains to be seen.
