New Grand Theft Auto Online Update Features TRON-style Bikes

Grand Theft Auto Online, the online component to the massively popular and controversial open-world action adventure game released in 2013, just got a new update that lets players drive TRON light cycles, light stream and all.

Any sci-fi fan who has seen either iteration of the TRON films, whether the classic 1982 version or the 2010 remake, knows how amazing it would be to rip around on one of these bad boys. Thanks to the newest GTA Online update, they finally can.

The new update adds a brand new mode to the game called ‘Deadline’ along with the game’s version of the light cycle called the Nagasaki Shotaro. As with everything in GTA’s parody world, the bikes aren’t officially licensed by Disney in the game, but they’re shameless knockoffs. The look exactly like the real deal, albeit with tiny variations, and the ‘Deadline’ gametype is an obvious tribute to TRON.

Just like in the TRON movies, the ‘Deadline’ gametype puts players into a large arena to race around on the bikes, leaving the distinctive light stream behind it. The goal of the game is to cut off your opponents and get them to either crash into your light stream or their own. There are in-game power-ups that let players maneuver better or even jump over other light streams. The last rider alive wins, and playing a match of the gametype allows players to buy the vehicle permanently in the rest of the game world. The update is free just like all previous GTA Online updates.
