Photos of what is claimed to be a prototype for the next Volkswagen Jetta have surfaced online.

The next-generation Jetta is expected to be a little longer and a little wider than the outgoing version of the sedan.

The new design is also more raked at the back, sharing some of the gran coupe lines that make the Arteon such a pleasure to look at.

Up front, a proud hexagonal grille harks to Audi’s current design, while the lines in the headlights that continue into the grille fit firmly into VW’s recent design language. Finally, from the rear, the taillights follow the lines of the trunk into sharp points.

All of it will sit on VW’s MQB chassis, like the new Golf (and the Tiguan, and the Atlas, and the Arteon), so there’s no reason to believe that its handling and performance will be anything less than excellent.

Set to debut and begin production before the end of the year, it looks like it could hit showrooms in early 2018.
