Nearly 500K Ram HD Pickup Trucks Recalled for Fire Hazard

The recall addresses a faulty water pump.

According to Ram, an investigation has discovered certain trucks are equipped with a water-pump bearing that, after exposure to certain conditions, may overheat and potentially cause a fire in the engine bay. The recall affects 2013-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, as well as 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs. The affected units are all powered by a 6.7-liter engine and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has confirmed Ram no longer equips vehicles with that water pump.

A warning light may activate if the water pump has been compromised, so customers should contact their dealer if a warning light is illuminated.

The American automaker is aware of a small number of incidents involving fires and damage, but none extended beyond the immediate area of the water pump.

The recall affects 443,712 units in the U.S., 46,220 in Canada, and 4,485 outside North America.
