NASCAR Drivers Transform the Toyota Camry

Toyota‘s theme at the 2017 SEMA Show is the “Power of New,” highlighting two new vehicles in the automaker’s lineup.

One of those two vehicles is the Toyota Camry, with the Japanese automaker enlisting the help of star NASCAR drivers Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, and Daniel Suarez. Each driver brought his own interpretation of how to elevate the Camry’s performance, injecting some much-needed excitement to the popular family sedan.

Not to be completely outdone by the NASCAR drivers, television analyst and Toyota SEMA MC Rutledge Wood teamed up with Real Time Automotive Solutions for an aggressive widebody Camry. Finished in a custom “Blurple” paint, Wood’s Camry sits closer to the ground thanks to a set of coilovers from Megan Racing. Rotiform 20-inch wheels finished in Rose Gold adorn each corner, while Wilwood brakes peek from behind.

Taking a look at the Camry customized by 2015 NASCAR Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year Daniel Suarez, we get an elegant yet sporty take on the sedan. The pearl white body is contrasted by a black roof and A-pillars, while aerodynamic upgrades include a front splitter and rear wing. The 3.5-liter V6 engine gets a slight performance boost courtesy of an AEM cold air intake and TRD exhaust system. Rotiform was also the wheel of choice for Suarez, who opted to use a Tein coilovers setup and StopTech brakes.

Up next is a road-going version of Truex Jr.’s number-78 Camry Cup Car. A dark shade of black adorns the exterior while all the chrome trim has been treated with cobalt Cerakote. All surfaces have also received a matte clear coat, giving it a sinister look. Helping make it unique is a set of 20-inch American Racing custom wheels, designed to look like replicas of the wheels on Truex Jr.’s race car. The Camry also has a front splitter and rear spoiler, Tein coilovers, and Stoptech brakes.

Then we have Kyle Busch’s Camry, featuring a NASCAR-style front splitter, aluminum rear wing, and rear diffuser from Chuck G Fabrication. The 3.5-liter V6 benefits from an AEM cold air intake and K&N air filter, as well as a TRD exhaust with Chuck G Fabrication custom tips. Once again, Tein coilovers give the Camry a more aggressive stance while rolling on 20-inch American Racing Kyle Busch-designed wheels.

Lastly is Denny Hamlin’s Camry project, which can easily be recognized by the bright red 20-inch American Racing wheels. Again, Tein coilovers and StopTech brakes were used on the project, which features a widebody conversion with three-inch fender flares on all four corners.

Joining all the customized Camry sedans at SEMA is a display that represents all eight generations of the Camry, from the very first model from 1983 to the all-new 2018 model.
