Mercedes is Already Talking About an All-Electric Successor to the Project One

Days after launching the hybrid Project One, Mercedes-AMG is already thinking about replacing it with an all-electric model.

Mercedes could replace the Formula 1 derived Project One hybrid in 2025 with an all-electric flagship hypercar sporting similar levels of performance and exclusivity.

Speaking to at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Daimler’s big boss, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, said the new endeavor will marry the brand’s new Formula E effort with the company’s plan for a quarter of all sales to be all-electric by 2025.

“It’s not an accident that by 2020 we will start in Formula E, which at that point in time is more a PR and marketing platform,” Zetsche said. “But when we enter, we want to contribute to the face that this will become more and more a sporting platform, with real, hard competition, so the answer is yes.”

But the idea is still very much nascent considering the Project One is still pre-production status, but both McLaren and Porsche are said to be dreaming of their own all-electric asphalt eaters in the coming decade.
