Mercedes-Benz has been spied testing its next-generation A-Class in four-door sedan form.

The current A-Class is only available as a hatchback and isn’t offered in North America. That’s all set to change with this new model, however, which will be offered as a four-door sedan and will make the transatlantic swim to the United States. It will undercut the sport and style centric CLA in the automaker’s lineup and will be touted as a more practical and roomier alternative to that the four-door “coupe”.

According to , Mercedes-Benz dealers in the U.S. were shown the production A-Class sedan during a dealer meeting earlier this summer. The four-door should arrive around this time next year with a price tag that is lower than the CLA’s MSRP of $32,700.

The styling of the A-Class was previewed by the Concept A sedan shown at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show earlier this year. The concept appeared almost identical to the prototype seen here, which to our looks like a curvier and more svelte C-Class. The interior is “cutting edge and techy” according to a dealer employee who was shown the vehicle. Under the hood should be Mercedes’ 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which could make as much as 400 horsepower in the AMG version.

Look for the Mercedes A-Class sedan to debut in early or mid-2018 before going on sale later in the year.
