Mercedes-AMG GT Four Door Sheds Camouflage for the Cameras

Quite a bit of camouflage has been dropped from the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT prototype.

The last time we saw the Mercedes-AMG GT Four Door testing, it had lots of camouflage on the rear, concealing its design. But this time the German automaker has removed it all, revealing the fastback style for the upcoming four-door sports car.

Set to arrive in 2018, the Mercedes-AMG GT Four Door is looking to compete with the Porsche Panamera in the luxury sedan segment and previewed the model with the AMG GT Concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. In concept form, Mercedes-AMG teased the idea of using a hybrid powertrain, with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 paired to a hybrid system to make 805 horsepower.

Expect the production version to first be offered with standard gasoline engines first, before the electrified powertrains arrive later on. The car will ride on the company’s Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which also underpins the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class models.
