Mercedes-AMG Finally Teases its 1,000-HP Hypercar

The Mercedes-AMG Project One will debut later this month.

Making its world premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the German automaker’s hypercar is expected to rival the Aston Martin Valkyrie with its own Formula 1 hybrid powertrain. Although Mercedes-AMG isn’t saying much about Project One at the moment, the company did say the high-performance hybrid will have over 1,000 horsepower and a top speed exceeding 217 mph (350 km/h). “The showcar combines outstanding racetrack performance with day-to-day suitable Formula 1 hybrid technology and exemplary efficiency,” Mercedes-AMG said in a release.

What we do know about the Project One is that it will be a two-seater hypercar, powered by a mid-mounted 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine combined with four electric motors. It will be limited to just 275 units and reportedly will have to be serviced every 30,000 or so miles (50,000 kilometers). Previously, Mercedes-AMG has teased the rear end of the Project One and most recently, it released a teaser video starring Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
