Maserati Spied Testing Twin-Turbo V8 SUV

The V8-powered Maserati Levante GTS has been spied testing.

Spy photographers have caught this Maserati Levante prototype being benchmarked against the BMW X5 M, suggesting there’s a lot more power under the hood. That means the Maserati Levante will finally get a V8 engine next year and will most likely take on the GTS nameplate. Power is expected to come from a twin-turbo V8 sourced from Ferrari – the same 3.8-liter powerplant that generates 523 horsepower in the Maserati Quattroporte GTS.

In order to accommodate the high-performance engine, expect some styling changes to be done. As seen on this particular prototype, the front bumper will receive larger air intakes, along with vents on the hood. Also expect to see changes to the SUV’s suspension, brakes, and wheels.

Look for a debut sometime next year.
