A total of 3,299 Maserai Levante SUVs are affected by a new recall.
According to the recall notice, Maserati first opened an investigation on October 18, 2016 after a claim in China was filed regarding a transmission shift to neutral during low RPM operation. The company investigated and decided a recall was necessary and notes that all 100 percent of the units are affected.
The issue occurs when the Levante is operating at speeds of approximately 2 mph, which can be encountered during heavy stop-and-go traffic. Maserati says the transmission may unintentionally shift into neutral or possibly have the engine shut down, increasing the risk of a crash.

The vehicles affected by the recall were manufactured between July 1, 2016 and December 13, 2016. To fix the issue, the Italian automaker will reflash the ECU software and the fix will be performed free of charge. Affected owners will be notified at the end of March.
