Lewis Hamilton Teases the 1,000 HP Mercedes-AMG Project One

Mercedes-Benz has teased its highly anticipated AMG Project One hypercar in a new video series featuring Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

The videos, which were posted to Mercedes-AMG’s YouTube channel, feature Hamilton talking about various AMG cars from the performance brand’s history. The first features the legendary 300 SL Red Pig, an early AMG racecar that took a surprise second place in the 1971 Spa 24 Hours. The second highlights the AMG Hammer, which was the fastest four-door car in the world when it was released in 1986 with a top speed of 187 mph (300 km/h). The third video touches on the SLS AMG Electric Drive – a limited run, electric version of the SLS AMG that featured a 60 kWh battery pack and produced around 740 horsepower.

The Project One will be much different than those three pieces of AMG’s past. The hypercar will be powered by a Formula-derived, mid-mounted 1.6-liter turbocharged V6, which will be joined by four electric motors. The powertrain should be good for 1,000 horsepower. The car will have to be serviced every 50,000 kilometers (just over 30,000 miles) and will be limited to 275 units. The first customers should take delivery in 2019.

The AMG Project One will debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September. In the meantime, you can check out the teaser videos embedded below and get acclimated with AMG’s past before it previews the future of the brand with the debut of the Project One.
