Land Rover Discovery Intelligent Folding Seats Tested by Bear Grylls While Skydiving

Land Rover has teamed up with world-renowned British adventurer Bear Grylls to show off a new technology in the Discovery.

Set to make its official debut later this month at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the new Land Rover Discovery has been teased yet again, but this time the British automaker is showing off the entire vehicle, albeit with camouflage.

The focus of this campaign is to demonstrate the new Intelligent Seat Fold system that allows owners to reconfigure their vehicle seating remotely with a smartphone from anywhere in the world… even in mid-air.

The unique test had Grylls changing the seat layout of a Land Rover Discovery during a 125 mph skydiving descent. Afterwards, the seven-seater luxury SUV accommodated all seven skydivers.

The British automaker said the Intelligent Seat Fold technology allows the two rear rows of seats to be fully reconfigured in as little as 14 seconds through the InControl Remote app that can be downloaded on any iOS or Android device.

“Land Rover is proving why the New Discovery is the ultimate family SUV,” said Bear Grylls. “The fact that they have created this world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology is impressive in itself and for the remote function to work while we are freefalling from a plane is pretty cool! I’m not sure many people will be using it in such a manner but the technology to operate the car remotely in this way will undoubtedly be a real winner for busy families who want to be prepared.”
