Images of New Volvo XC40 Surface Early

Images of the new Volvo XC40 compact crossover have leaked through a video posted by Volvo Hungary.

The video, which has since been taken down, showed the XC40 in full ahead of its debut on September 21st. The crossover is nearly identical to the 40 Series Crossover Concept the Swedish automaker showed last year, with the same silhouette and similarly modern front and rear fascias. The video also revealed an R-Design model will be available, offering a sporty rear hatch spoiler, larger wheels and other sport-inspired features. According to Volvo, the available trims will be as follows: Momentum, R-Design and Inscription.

As far as the powertrain goes, the video showed an XC40 with a T5 TwinEngine badge, suggesting a hybrid powertrain will be available from launch. The T5 TwinEngine powertrain is expected to consist of a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 74 horsepower electric motor. Volvo has said it will serve as an attractive alternative to a diesel powertrain, offering low C02 emissions with good power and torque.

In a press release earlier this year, Volvo shared its vision for the XC40, which will be the smallest crossover in its lineup.

“We wanted the XC40 to be a fresh, creative and distinctive member of the Volvo line-up, allowing its drivers to put their personality in their driveway,” said Volvo’s design boss, Thomas Ingenlath. “XC40 drivers are interested in fashion, design and popular culture, and often live in large, vibrant cities. They want a car that reflects their personality. The XC40 is that car.”

Be sure to check back for more info on the XC40 when it makes its debut on September 21st.
