Snapshot: We tell about some Do’s and Don’ts that you need to follow for a perfect wash!

The way you take care of your motorcycle reveals how much you love it. Owners of Street Bobs or any other motorcycles make sure that they keep their bikes neat and clean every time they are out for a ride. Some people are too lazy as they find taking it to a bike wash is way easier than washing it themselves, but we beg to differ, as we feel washing or cleaning it yourself is a way to appreciate and thanking it. You might think washing your motorcycle is a simple process but there are quite a few do’s and don’ts that you must follow to ensure the maximum safety of your bike and yourself.

How to – Properly Wash and Polish your bike

The first and foremost important thing when it comes to washing your bike is to let it cool down if you have just arrived from a ride. Do not rush into washing it if the engine is still warm, grab a cup of tea and let the exhaust system and engine cool down for at least 15 or 20 minutes before moving forward with the wash.

Rinse the motorcycle properly with clean water to make sure to remove all the mud and dirt even from the inner parts because if you scrub a dirt filled cloth/sponge on the motorcycle, get ready to see scratches on it.

Fill 1st bucket with mild detergent or bike wash shampoo in it while the other bucket should be filled with fresh water. Soak the sponge or cleaning cloth in the first bucket and clean the bike with it and then rinse the cloth in the second bucket with fresh water that will remove all the dirt from the cloth into the water, and then repeat the process until every bit of the bike is clean.

Do not let the wash shampoo to get dry on the bike and rinse it immediately as soon as you are done. Also, avoid using high-pressure water jet as it may harm the electricals on the bike.

Soon after showering the bike with fresh water and cleaning the last drop of shampoo off the bike, make sure to wipe all the body parts with a dry microfiber cloth. The cloth will soak up all the water and hence there will be no watermarks left.

  • When the bike is nice and dry, you can give the final touch by using a dry wax polish to make the bike retains the lustrous shine as if it is new. The dry wax also helps by adding a thin protecting layer of wax on the bike panels.
  • Apply the thinnest layer of wax evenly using a sponge usually given inside the polish box. You will need another clean cloth to gently rub the polish over the bike surface. Then use a dry cloth to rub the polish gently until the shine arrives.
  • You can also use polish sprays available online as they are a bit more convenient compared to wax polish creams.
  • Also, make sure to only use a non-abrasive polish or wax made specifically for motorcycles or car surfaces.

Last but not the least, make sure you lubricate the motorcycle chain set soon after the wash as this ensures a long life of the chain set.
