Here's the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Best of Show Winner

The winner of the coveted Best of Show award at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is a 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer.

Owned by Bruce R. McCaw, the classic Mercedes emerged from Steve Babinsky’s restoration shop in Lebanon, New Jersey just a week ago. After traveling across the country to attend this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Bruce McCaw leaves California with bragging rights over his brother, John McCaw. John McCaw, along with his wife Gwen McCaw, also competed for Best of Show with their 1957 Ferrari 315 S Scaglietti Spyder.

“This Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer is a combination of speed, style and power,” said Concours chairman Sandra Button. “Somehow these three elements—along with those fantastic torpedo running boards—become the very definition of elegance.”

The winning McCaw brother from Bellevue, Washington says he’s had the car for several years now, but was always questioning whether or not to restore it. “I always hate to restore something that doesn’t need it,” he said. “But we finally found enough pictures that we knew the car needed to be restored.”

The 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer retains its original Marchal lighting equipment and chrome-plated wheels, while its rich blue color was inspired by a dress made of peacock feathers in the 1850s.

This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance drew 204 cars from 15 countries and 31 states, including 54 first-time entrants. The event also helped raise over $1.6 million that will go on to benefit over 80 local charities through the Pebble Beach Company Foundation.
