Ferrari 488 GTO Caught Testing at the Nurburgring

Ferrari’s next hardcore mid-engine V8 model, which is expected to adopt the ‘GTO’ moniker, has been photographed testing at the Nurburgring.

Just a few days ago, a video was shared on YouTube showing the same prototype pounding around the ‘Ring. Reports indicate it’s a mule for the upcoming Ferrari 488 GTO, which will serve as the successor to the 458 Speciale.

Like the video, the photos give us a good look at some of the changes Ferrari has made to the 488, with new air intakes on the edges of the front bumper and the side intakes having been enlarged. The Italian automaker has also decided to cover up the engine bay, leading us to believe some major powertrain changes could be in store.

The latest rumors say Ferrari 488 GTO won’t incorporate any sort of KERS or hybrid system, with Ferrari deciding to employ hybrid systems in its V12 models only. It will be the automaker’s most hardcore V8 model yet, however, and as such, you can look for output to be bumped to around 700 horsepower, while weight will be shed so it tips the scales at around 3,086 pounds (1,400 kilograms).

Expect to learn more in the coming months, as the model is expected to make its debut sometime next year.
