Bugatti says the only way to make the Chiron faster is to turn to electrification.
Even though the successor to the Chiron’s is at least seven years away from production, CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer has confirmed that electrification tech will work its way into the car eventually.
“The nextcar is a long way from being developed, but the way battery and electric motor technology is moving on – as well as regulations – it seems certain that the next car will be electrified in some way. It will still be too soon for a full electric car, I think – but electrification will happen,” he told .
Initially, Bugatti considered electrifying the Chiron in order to ensure its performance would surpass the Veyron. But the company managed without having to turn to a hybrid powertrain by upgrading many of the W16 engine’s components.

In the interview, the CEO also suggested Bugatti may introduce a second model to its lineup, which would delay the Chiron’s successor. As a result, it would alternate between new car launches, meaning a new Bugatti model would come around 2024 and the next Chiron won’t arrive until 2032.
Production of the current Chiron is expected to last for around eight years, and more than half – 280 – of the 500 units have been sold.
