Tesla has remained tight-lipped about the true battery size and power output of its new Model 3 sedan, but preliminary findings from the Environmental Protection Agency have revealed some of its specs.
According to the EPA documents, which were obtained by , the rear-wheel drive Model 3 has a permanent magnet electric motor that produces 258 horsepower. The same document also lists the 310-mile, 75 kWh Model 3’s kerb weight at 3,837 pounds.
Additionally, the 310-mile version of the electric four-door was found to have a battery pack with a nominal voltage of around 350 V, which is roughly equivalent to 80 kWh. Tesla founder Elon Musk said previously the Model 3 would be capable of carrying a maximum battery size of 75 kWh and this info seems to support that statement, with the 80 kWh figure representing the maximum capacity of the battery and not the usable output.

The EPA findings also saw the 310-mile Model 3 travel for about 495 highway miles on the dynamometer test. This wasn’t a real-world range test, but was rather conducted on a rolling road to test the true range of the battery/motor combo when weight and other factors aren’t involved. These are also preliminary test figures and are subject to change.
The EPA should release its official findings for the Model 3 and its range shortly.
