Fiat Chrysler was forced to temporarily halt production of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan after its Windsor Assembly Plant flooded Tuesday night.
The Southern Ontario city of Windsor has experienced heavy rains over the past couple of days, with images circulating on social media of flooded roadways and stranded cars in the area. Water made its way into Windsor Assembly Tuesday night, forcing the automaker to send about 2,000 hourly employees home shortly before 6 p.m. By midnight, however, the waters had mostly receded and production of the Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid and Dodge Grand Caravan was able to resume.

It’s not clear which areas of the plant flooded or what impacted FCA’s decision to halt production. The plant was believed to be back running at full capacity as of Wednesday morning and employees were expected to report to work as usual. The 4.4-million square-foot plant produces about 1,400 vehicles a day and employs nearly 6,000 workers. The plant was first constructed in 1928 and has been tasked with building minivans for Chrysler since 1983.
