BMW Z4 Concept to Debut in August

BMW Z4 Concept to Debut in August

BMW will take the covers off a Z4 Concept this summer at the famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in mid-August.

According to the open-top concept is in the final stages of production and will preview the third-generation Z4, which should go on sale in late 2018.

Toyota played a hand in developing the Z4 thanks to a joint venture with the Japanese automaker and BMW. An all-new Toyota Supra will be the result for the Japanese brand, to be sold as a coupe only. Likewise, the Z4 is said to only be offered as a convertible and since the beginning of production, the companies have said that the two cars will not be direct competitors.

What will be under the hood remains the biggest mystery, with rumors pointing to a turbocharged inline six-cylinder from BMW and possibly a hybrid system supplied by Toyota. Recent spy photos also revealed some paperwork that could be seen sporting specs, revealing that a Z4 S20i will be available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with about 200 horsepower.

A six-speed manual gearbox has also been seen in spy photos, so expect it as an option.

Thanks to an all-new platform developed in conjunction with Toyota, the new Z4 should weigh quite a bit less than the current model, also helped by the ditching of a hardtop convertible roof in favor of simple cloth.
